Giving and Sharing
On Friday 12th August 2011, our grade 6 & 7 learners with their educators spent a splendid evening together enjoying the true essence of Ramadaan of giving and sharing.
Learners were dressed in their Friday best with thaubs, fezzes and scarves to welcome the long awaited mass Iftaar.
In true Cape Town style, everyone brought a plate of delicious eats to tantalize the taste buds.
This was an ideal opportunity, while all learners were seated together, to have a guest speaker, Sheikh Magdi Hendricks, to remind them of the reasons one fast, highlighting the benefits of fasting and reminding them of their duties during the month of Ramadan.
At Iftaar, learners could enjoy all the delicacies laid out for them. Naturally there was a mass of food to choose from.
A huge thank you goes out to all those responsible for making this such a pleasant social gathering which will remain with learners for many years to come. Thank you to the parents for sacrificing their special time with their family and making an effort to drop and collect their child at school.
The last thanks go to the learners who were well-behaved and most accommodating at the iftaar and for creating a special atmosphere that educators will treasure for a long time.
Prefects 2011 After a six month probation period and much deliberation, we are proud to announce our prefects of 2011. These 23 learners have proven themselves to be outstanding members of the Star International Primary family. The teachers and prefect committee had a tough task ahead of them, havi8
St. Luke’s Hospice
Once again with the support of our parents, our school was able to donate clothing to St.Lukes Hospice. We are thankful for the dedication and assistance of all our parents who always support our schools outreach programmes thus keeping in line with one of the values practiced at Star International Primary School.
What I did during my 67 minutes of doing good. On Thursday the 11 August 2011, we went to Christine Revel Children’s Home. We had to walk, but it was well worth it. Mrs. Mohamed and Mrs. Abrahams walked with us, while my teacher took the gifts by car. We went in the morning and it was still fres8
Mobile Library
We are pleased to inform that ATHLONE mobile library now renders a service directly to the school as of 26th May 2011. Our learners together with their educators enjoy borrowing books from the mobile library which occurs during school times between 1.00pm and 2.45pm every Thursday. Educators encourage students to select a wide variety of genre thus not limiting their reading habits.
Grade R & 1 – Show and Tell Learners were afforded the opportunity to come and showcase “show and tell” weekly. This oral presentation boosts their confidence and vocabulary. The learners have exceeded our expectations with their chosen topics, such as experiments, music entertainment, technolo8
On the 19th May 2011, a few of our gr. 6 & 7 learners participated in the Absa General Knowledge Competition. The aim of the Olympiad is to test the overall general knowledge of our learners and encourage them to expand their knowledge by reading newspapers and watching informative television pr8
